Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in witnesses to workplace accidents is an increasingly relevant topic in efforts to understand the psychological impact in the work environment. This study explores the symptoms, risk factors, and management strategies of PTSD in occupational accident witnesses through a literature analysis. Findings presented a symptom picture that included intrusion, avoidance, cognitive and mood changes, and changes in reactivity. Risk factors found involved social support, response to the accident, work environment hazards, and perceived trauma. Various management strategies, such as family support, screening, and debriefing sessions, were also proposed. Further studies are needed to further explore occupational accident witnessing, compare professions, develop appropriate interventions, evaluate environmental factors, and understand the impact of social factors.
