DESCRIPTION OF COGNITIVE FUNCTION IN THE ELDERLY BASED ON CHARACTERISTICS

The occurrence of impaired cognitive function in the form of intellectual function damage
can have an impact on the role of the elderly emotionally in daily life. This research aims to
determine the description of cognitive function in the elderly based on characteristics. This
research is a quantitative research using exploratory descriptive design. The population in
this study was the elderly aged 60 years and over as many as 613 elderly people. Sampling
using random sampling with a sample of 86 respondents. Data were collected using
respondents' demographic data questionnaire, the ISAACS-WALKEY Impairment
Measurement research instrument. This study found that respondents were in the vulnerable
young elderly aged 60-74 years as much as 80.2%, more than half of the respondents were
female at 62.8% with the highest percentage of education, namely the elementary school
level of 39.5%. The most respondents' marital status is married with a percentage of 62.8%,
and based on the most history suffered by the elderly, namely hypertension with a total of
26.7%. The conclusion of this study, it is important to conduct counseling related to cognitive
function so that people better know and recognize the trigger factors for cognitive function
disorders.
