Breast cancer is a disease with a high incidence and mortality rate in various countries. The cause of the high mortality rate for breast cancer is because 70% of breast cancer cases are detected at an advanced stage and 80% of the community does not understand the importance of BSE. Breast self-examination (BSE) can be done to detect breast cancer early so that it can reduce the risk of death. This study aims to determine the effect of health education using audio- visual media on the knowledge of adolescent girls about breast self-examination (BSE) at SMAN 18 GARUT. This research method uses a pre-experimental design with a one group pretest posttest design. The sample in this study amounted to 44 students obtained using probability sampling technique using Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling. The population in this study were students of SMAN 18 GARUT. The results showed that before health education, some respondents had less knowledge (52.3%), after health education, some respondents had good knowledge (65.9%). The statistical test using the paired t test p value = 0.000 0.05 shows that there is an effect of health education using audio-visual media on the knowledge of adolescent girls about breast self-examination (BSE) at SMAN 18 Garut.
