MOTIVATION AND ATTITUDE OF NURSING STUDENTS TOWARDS ENGLISH

Mastery of English is one of the main competencies that you need
to have, not only to communicate professionally in the workplace
but also to keep abreast of developments in science and technology
in various fields. One of the things that needs to be considered and
the focus of attention in the English learning process is factors
related to their motivation and attitudes towards English itself.
Therefore, this study aims to analyze the motivation and attitudes
of nursing students towards English. The research method uses
descriptive analysis with data collection techniques through
questionnaires to measure motivation and attitudes towards
English among 90 nursing students at STIKes Karsa Husada Garut as
research respondents. The research results showed that nursing
students at STIKes Karsa Husada Garut have quite high motivation
toward English, seen from agreement figures the highest number of
respondents in the motivation variable statements were 75.5percent.
However, the attitude of STIKes Karsa Husada Garut nursing
students towards English has not been optimal, as the highest
agreement rate on statements in the attitude variable was only
25percent. Based on the result, it is highly recommended to be able to
provide facilities that can become a forum for the activities of
nursing students at STIKes Karsa Husada Garut to support each
other and maintain high motivation toward English and at the same
time, be able to maximize student’s positive attitudes towards
English, in particular train and improve English language skills, so
that in later graduates from this campus can become graduates who
excel and can compete at the global level
